Little beans with big flavor. Peaberry beans are small coffee beans with a cleft in the middle. They have a richer flavor than typical oval-shaped coffee beans. This means that a cup of Peaberry Coffee will be full-bodied, flavorful and aromatic. These beans are grown on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano in northern Tanzania, where the fertile soil and climate provide perfect conditions for the coffee plants to thrive.
Key Characteristics
Flavor Profile: Bright, sweet, and complex with notes of citrus, plum, red currant, and chocolate.
- Body & Acidity: Medium-bodied with sparkling or vibrant acidity.
- Roast Level: Best roasted at a medium-light or medium level to highlight its delicate, fruity, and winey characteristics.
- Unique Structure: The small, round, dense beans are known for roasting evenly and producing a cleaner, more intensely flavored cup compared to flat beans.
Growing Regions & Production
Mount Kilimanjaro/Mt. Meru: The primary source for these beans, grown in rich volcanic soil at high altitudes.
- Harvesting: Often hand-picked and washed (wet-processed), then dried in the sun.
Brewing Recommendations
Pour-over or Drip: Ideal for highlighting the bright and delicate fruity notes.
- Espresso: Produces a bright and vibrant shot.
